Dairy Secretary and Market Administrator

Based at our Exeter Livestock Centre we are recruiting a full time Secretary to assist our busy agricultural department. 

The role: The role includes supporting auctioneers and fieldsmen with the day to day running of the department, collecting information, dealing with licensing, typing and preparation of dairy catalogues and attending market as part of the accounts team. 

The role will also involve carrying out other general administration duties for the agricultural department including assisting clients both face to face and via the telephone. 

The successful candidate must be computer literate, have a fast accurate typing speed, possess excellent communication skills and be able to meet strict deadlines. Must have excellent customer service, a methodical nature and the ability to work under pressure. The successful candidate will have the ability to use initiative and work confidently on their own or as part of a team. 

The Candidate

The candidate: will be bright, cheerful, willing to help and quick to learn. Previous secretarial experience and use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher would be an advantage. A background and interest in agriculture is essential. 

This is an interesting and varied role requiring a candidate with a strong work ethic. 

Duties will include (non-exhaustive): 

  • • Typing accurate dairy catalogues from information supplied by farmers, NMR, CIS or HUKI 
  • • Interpreting information appropriately 
  • • Preparation of catalogues including help with photocopying and posting 
  • • Production of adverts relating to dairy sales 
  • • Coordination of dairy entries 
  • • Updating website and social media 
  • • Preparation of selling information for auctioneers 
  • • Collation of passports and input on to the market computer system 
  • • Typing of correspondence 
  • • Assistance with the organisation of on-farm sales 
  • • Handling inbound & outgoing telephone calls, taking messages where necessary 
  • • Sending and receiving of emails via Microsoft Outlook 
  • • Deal with customer enquiries and customer problems 
  • • Provide account support on market days 
  • • Help with reception of and booking in of dairy cattle 
  • • Assisting the Auctioneer and Fieldsman with diary management 
  • • Preparing market reports 
  • • General secretarial duties including mailing, photocopying etc. 


Working Hours: 8.45am till 5.30pm Monday to Friday. In addition you may also be required to work some Saturdays and Bank Holidays.
